The Board of Directors had the opportunity to tour the Community Family Centers this morning and present a $10,000 check to support the Adult Education Program.
Community Family Centers (CFC) is a multi-service non-profit organization that offers a wide range of bilingual services to families within Houston’s impoverished Greater East End for over 45 years.
The Adult Education Program provides courses of instruction to individuals 18 years of age or older to gain the skills and education necessary to achieve self-sufficiency and a higher standard of living. We link our students to workforce programs, financial education programs and other resources that support their goals.Classes are taught in self-contained classrooms where degreed instructors use a holistic approach to immerse students in the language. The program currently operates year round with an average of 3.5 hours of instruction per day.Appropriate curricula and variety of materials, focusing on math, social studies, science, writing, and language skills allow adults of varying educational levels to raise their academic levels. Periodic testing allows students to mark their progress towards achieving their academic goals.CFC's newest endeavor with supporting workforce development through its partnership with community based organizations and local employers is the Construction Training initiative that will provide an opportunity for participants to earn three nationally recognized industry credentials.📷 The AE program includes courses in: • Construction Training- NCCER CORE, Drywall Level 1 and OSHA 10 + Contextualized ABE • English as a Second Language (ESL): Levels: Basic, ESL1 - ESL IV. • Adult Basic Education (ABE): Levels: ABE 1 and ABE II • General Educational Development Diploma (GED): Levels: Pre-GED and GED.
