OUR LEGACY IN MOTION
The Morales Memorial Foundation was founded in 1993 by Angela V. Morales as her final gift to the community she loved. A woman of deep faith and compassion, she believed in giving back to the East End families who had supported her for decades. Her vision lives on—through programs that educate, inspire, and uplift.
Our Impactful Work
Led by members of the Morales family, the Foundation supports youth and families through initiatives rooted in cultural pride, education, and opportunity. Our signature programs include an annual school supply giveaway, college & career day, and the beloved Death by Chocolate fundraiser.
Thanks to community support, the Foundation has funded and uplifted the work of powerful local nonprofits including:
NABA Shoes for Kids, Barrio Dogs, HTX Art in the Heart, Wesley Community Center, Segundo Barrio Children’s Chorus, ALMAAHH, Lugarcitos / Small Spaces, Momentum Education, Magnolia Park Arts & Community, Houston Community College Foundation, and Latin Women’s Initiative, among others. These organizations help build a stronger, more creative, and more compassionate community.
A Legacy That Continues
The Morales family story began in 1931, when Felix H. and Angela V. Morales opened the first Latino-owned funeral home in Houston, offering dignity and respect to families who had previously held funerals in garages.
In 1950, they founded KLVL Radio—the first Spanish-language radio station on the Gulf Coast. It became a lifeline for the Latino community, broadcasting news, weather alerts, job listings, and Spanish-language music that connected and protected thousands of families.
Today, Morales Funeral Home remains family-owned and operated, and their granddaughter, Christina Morales, serves as both President of the Foundation and a Texas State Representative—continuing the family’s deep commitment to public service.
Through every generation, the Morales family has worked to uplift others. The Morales Memorial Foundation proudly carries that legacy forward—investing in the next generation of leaders, right here where it matters most.
